The department looked at the final policy report from the USDA Equity Commission.
The U.S. Department of Energy (USDA) held its inaugural National Equity Summit on Friday, where the final policy report, submitted by the members of the USDA Equity Commission, was reviewed.
The Equity Commission was formed in 2021 and spent the last two years compiling data and reviewing the effectiveness of USDA policies that are meant to support minority farmers and ranchers in the U.S. In the report, the commission submitted 66 recommendations for the USDA to consider as the department works to improve access for those impacted by racial differences.
“Over the past three years, under the Biden-Harris Administration, USDA has worked to take significant and meaningful actions to address issues still being felt as a result of a system that has not been equitable for generations,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. “USDA remains committed to charting a future that creates, not diminishes, opportunity, and key to this success is the hard work and dedication of the Equity Commission and its recommendations that will make forward-looking, long-lasting, and transformational progress.”
